"To Do" List for Readmitted UCSB Students

Following is a "To Do" list developed by the Office of the Registrar to help returning students navigate through the many tasks required of them.


  1. Prior to filing for Re-admission to UCSB, if you have more than 155 units or have been dismissed for academic reasons, talk with a college advisor.

  2. Return your Re-admission application including your email address to get your PERM number and PIN information sent to you. You may request that your PIN be reset to the last four digits of your SSN, if you don’t remember it.

  3. Sign up for Financial Aid (if necessary).

  4. Sign up for Housing (if necessary).

  5. Order Final transcripts from any schools since you left UCSB. Have them sent to the Registrar’s office.

  6. Complete you online Statement of Legal Residency (SLR), if you have been gone for more than three quarters.

  7. Veterans should file a Veterans Benefit Request Form.

  8. Apply for a Health insurance waiver with Student Health, (if necessary).

  9. Prepare for Registration.
    1. Access GOLD to get your Appointment time for registering.
    2. View the Online Schedule of Classes for times and course offerings.
    3. View the Online General Catalog for course descriptions and prerequisites (also available through GOLD)
    4. View information about your major.
    5. Review your college's academic requirements:
  10. Register on GOLD at your assigned appointment time or later.

  11. Check for Registration Blocks on GOLD when you register.

  12. Re-activate your U-Mail. U-Mail is UCSB's official student email service to which university business correspondence will be sent. If you already have an email account that you would rather use, you can have your U-Mail forwarded to your preferred email address. To register for your UCSBnetID, which also activates your U-Mail account, click here.

  13. Pay your fees from your BARC statement by the deadline.

  14. Move to Goleta or Santa Barbara area (if necessary):
    1. Residence Hall information
    2. Santa Barbara Newspress rental listings

  15. Update your address on GOLD.
    Dorm addresses are updated by Housing & Residential Services.

  16. Review your Personal Information on GOLD. (Changes should be reported to the Registrar’s office.)

  17. Pre-instruction tasks:
    1. Academic advising (if necessary).
    2. Take Placement Exams (if necessary).
    3. Go to ACCESS center to get your Student ID card.
    4. Attend Orientation for New and Returning students (if necessary).
    5. Figure out how to get around: Parking permits, Bus service, Bike registration.
    6. If you are an international student, get information about services, immigration issues, and opportunities to share your culture with others.
    7. Veterans (and their dependents) should meet with the Veterans' Representative at the Registrar's Office (if necessary).
    8. Veterans should meet with the Veterans representative at the Registrar’s office (if necessary).
    9. Information on making, managing, and spending your money.

      2. BARC.
      3. Financial Aid.
    10. Locate your classrooms before classes begin.

  18. Adjust your schedule during Pass 3 (if necessary).
    New registration and adds should be completed prior to the 5th day of Instruction, if possible.

  19. Other useful information:
    1. Check GOLD and U-Mail for messages periodically.
    2. UCSB KIOSK guide to getting involved - discovering your passions and making a difference is an important part of any college experience.
